100 years of SCI Switzerland

100 years of SCI Switzerland – 100 years of common commitment to peace

Let’s celebrate our centenary together in 2024!

We are delighted that you have found our official landing page for the centenary of SCI Switzerland. The first workcamp in Switzerland was organised by SCI in 1924. We’ve been working towards a more peaceful world for a century now, and it is a pleasure to celebrate this event with you.

About us

SCI Switzerland was founded in 1924 and since then has been committed to peace, social justice and the promotion of intercultural exchange. As an international network, our organisation is active all over the world and supports non-profit projects.

Programme:

14 March: Film screening (ciné liminal, Berne)
We will be showing two short films (about 30 minutes each) from our SCI archives. The first film is about SCI’s action after a natural disaster in Zernez in 1951, and the second film shows SCI’s action with a long-term project partner, Biohof Gruebisbalm, in 2001. The films show the diversity and evolution of SCI’s interventions over the past decades and provide an overview of SCI Switzerland’s peace work.

  • 18.30 – 18.45 Arrival
  • 18.45 – 19:00 Input SCI Switzerland
  • 19.00 – 20.00 Film screening
  • from 20.00 – Discussion (ciné liminal)

21 – 22 September: ‘Fête des Petites Elnes’ (Elne, France)

SCI Switzerland activist Elisabeth Eidenbenz founded the ‘Maternité Suisse d’Elne’, where almost 600 children were born between 1939 and 1944 whose mothers had fled the fascist regime. The ‘Fête des Petites Elnes’, a celebration of the ‘Maternité Suisse d’Elne’, of peace and solidarity, will take place on 21 and 22 September. SCI Switzerland, SCI France and SCI Catalonia offer workshops for children during the celebration and give a speech in memory of the SCI activists of the Second World War.
