Educators for Peace

It isn’t enough to talk about peace. One must believe in it.
And it isn’t enough to believe in it. One must work at it.
Eleanor Roosevelt

What is our project about?

With the “Educators for Peace” project, we will empower volunteers, activists and youth workers from 13 international organisations to make a change for a more peaceful world.

In 2023 and 2024, we will organise 2 training courses, where the participants will learn, share and exchange on how to work for peace. We intend to inspire our participants to become confident and competent educators for peace who create a chain of follow-up activities for promoting, living, and working for peace.

Why such a project?

j

schools in our countries rarely teach peace education and that’s why it’s up to us – the  civil sector – to bridge this gap with high-quality non-formal education actions

for this, we also need to educate and inspire new generations of youth workers and volunteers, who will then run local awareness-raising and capacity-building programmes

not every organisation has adequate knowledge and tools to train new peace educators, while SCI Switzerland specifies in this topic

That is why we step in with our expertise and our willingness to set up this new initiative, which also builds on the successful experiences of our “Peace in Practice” and “Peace for Change, Change for Peace” projects.

Project aims

With the project, we aim to:

train workers, volunteers and coordinators to become educators and changemakers and deliver high-quality educational events for peace;

facilitate the transborder exchange of ideas and experiences among youth workers and educators from a range of countries;

support the promotion of European values of peace and nonviolence, democracy, inclusion and sustainability.

strengthen the capacity of our consortium of 13 partners and to increase the quality and quantity of the peace education activities organised;

increase the quantity of high-quality local youth projects for peace, inclusion and nonviolence;

Our training courses

2023

“Training of Trainers for Peace” (16-23 November 2023, Köniz, Switzerland)

This training course trained multipliers who – upon their return home – organised high-quality educational events for peace (workshops, webinars, meetings, games etc.).

The main focus of the training was on how to plan, design, and deliver high-quality educational activities in offline and online settings.

2024

“Peace Education Market” (18-25 April 2024, Köniz, Switzerland)

The event will bring educators from 13 countries to learn, discuss, and share, and it will empower its participants to increase the quality and quantity of their peace education activities.

The activity will give the participants the possibility to learn more about specific peace-related topics (e.g. Nonviolent Communication, mindfulness, conflict resolution, etc.) and to deliver workshops for the other participants. We will also organise an open Peace Education Market for local NGOs and institutions.

After each training course, the participants will organise educational follow-up activities related to peace.

Project results

  • The project will result in around 60 empowered participants, who – back in their countries – will continue to organise peace-related educational activities for youngsters and other groups.
  • The impact on our 13 participating organisations will be increased quality and quantity of workshops, seminars and other peace-themed educational activities and more networking and stronger collaboration among us.
  • “Educators for Peace” project will also contribute to building a society where all people live together with mutual respect and without recourse to any form of violence to solve conflict.

IMPACT REPORT

TRAINING OF TRAINERS FOR PEACE

16-22.11.2023, Köniz, Switzerland

This report summarises the change that the project brought to its participants. We were very interested in learning what the training would change in the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of our participants.

Voices of volunteers

“The time spent on the project was surely an investment that inspired me and helped me feel prepared to conduct an initiative on the topic of Peace. Goska and Natalie were two radiating suns which managed to create this very warm and accepting community of people who will continue partnering to make the world a better place.”

Gergana P., Bulgaria

“The training was an amazing experience during which I gained new skills and tools, met inspiring people from different countries and cultures, and exchanged knowledge and ideas. I am very happy and grateful that I could take part in this training and I can definitely recommend it.”

Martyna R., Poland

Engagement for a peaceful future starts first with a single individual, but the combined effect of single numerous efforts brings a change to the whole world!
