Online Training Course: «Navigating Peace», 8 – 14 February 2021

Placement officers of the world, unite! In this training (Placement Officer Training = POT), volunteers or staff in SCI who place (other) volunteers in volunteering camps have the opportunity to get to know all the practical procedures, tips, tricks, possible challenges and good practices around that – as well as to get a better understanding of SCI as a movement and the possibilities of getting active in it.

Volunteering despite COVID-19. With this training, we want to make sure that the placement of volunteers goes smoothly in 2021 and that all placement officers feel well prepared for the many situations coming ahead. This is especially important with the many challenges that lie ahead in a year that the COVID-19 pandemic is still affecting the volunteering world.

SCI is about connections. At the same time, the training is a way to get to know each other better – the people participating here will be people you will stay in contact with via e-mail all year and it is a great opportunity to get to know the faces and the personalities behind the names. Every year, this training also has a content focus connected to SCI: This year, we will have a special focus on antimilitarism and peace and will include sessions on this in the training as well.

Online Training

Because of the pandemic, this year POT goes online! The training will take place everyday from 13:00-16:30 CET (Central European Time) on the video platform Zoom with an optional evening hangout and with individual tasks to do in the morning.

Participant’s profile

The participants will be staff, activists and volunteers from volunteerig organisations that are part of the SCI network (no matter if they are branches, groups or partner organisations of SCI). All participants will be expected and stimulated to contribute to the activities and discussions. They are very welcome and invited to come up with their own ideas and present some methods or workshops they are experienced in and they want to share. Please contact us in advance to tell us about it and we will see how it can fit in the training agenda. 🙂

All participants selected for this project must meet the following criteria

  • be 18 years old or older
  • work with placement of volunteers in their sending organization
  • be able to work in English
  • be interested in the training topics (peace and antimilitarism) and have a strong motivation to act as a multiplier
  • commit to implement the learned knowledge and skills in practice in their local context
  • commit to actively participate from the beginning to the end of the training

We explicitly encourage participants of all genders, sexual orientations, abilities and ethnic backgrounds to apply.

This training is financed by the Swiss government through the program “Movetia”: https://www.movetia.ch/
