LIVING LIBRARY

The Living Library is a very special library – because here, the books are people.
In personal conversations, visitors have the opportunity to get to know people with very different life realities, such as disabilities, ADHD, migrant backgrounds or experiences with sexism and everyday racism.

In 30-minute discussion rounds, these ‘living books’ share their stories, experiences and perspectives. It is a unique format for breaking down prejudices, promoting empathy – and broadening one’s own horizons, even ‘outside the bubble’.

Throughout Switzerland since 2014

SCI Switzerland has been organising Living Library events since 2014 – successfully and in a variety of ways.
Whether in cosy cafés, as part of celebrations, as part of awareness campaigns or at anniversary events – the Living Library is flexible and adaptable.

Our latest Living Library in Bern:
Ecological restoration

Nature can ‘heal’ – if we help it to do so. Discover with us how regeneration is possible – and how each individual can contribute. The books in this edition provided insights into their work and invited visitors to ask questions, learn more about ecological restoration and discover ways to get involved.

Organised by SCI Switzerland in collaboration with the Museumsquartier Bern, this event provided a platform to gain insights into current ecological restoration projects and discuss the role they can play in tackling global environmental problems.

Thank you for the great discussions!
