About the project

Every summer SCI Switzerland hosts voluntary projects, which take place all around Switzerland. „Create a Common Understanding“ is a project for refugees and asylum seeking persons, and we want to invite them in those projects to boost intercultural exchange with volunteers all around the world and to offer a refreshing change from daily life in the reception centres.

What is a Workcamp?

Workcamps are short-term voluntary projects which host an international group of volunteers, coming from all parts of the world. Together, the group supports different social, ecological or cultural projects in Switzerland. The projects last for 1-3 weeks and usually take place over the summer.

Who can participate?

This is a project for refugees and asylum seeking persons who are:

  • 18+
  • Are willing to take active part in the whole duration of the workcamp
  • Have interest in intercultural diversity and exchange
  • Can communicate in the required language of the workcamp of their choice (English/German)

Which projects can you take part in?

There are different workcamps in Switzerland where you can participate in – they are social, ecological or cultural projects. Current projects are online at www.workcamps.sci.ngo

Which costs are covered by SCI?

In this project for refugees and asylum seeking persons are covered these costs: Participation Fee, Food and acommodation during the project, travel costs to and from the project and trainings.

Are you back from your workcamp or long-term engagement and want to stay active in Switzerland? Or do you want to put SCI values into practice at the local level?

As a local volunteer, you can participate in our events, project groups, in certain roles or in international SCI campaigns.

Find your workcamp!

Workcamps are Short-term volunteer placements in an international group. The duration is 1-3 weeks. Together with volunteers from different countries, you support a social, ecological or cultural project abroad (in more than 90 countries) or in Switzerland. Together with other volunteers you help and discover the culture of your host country. Through your commitment, you get to know new people and can gain first-hand experience of the culture and society of your host country. From 16/18 years.
